Watergate: did Ben Bradlee doubt Woodward and Bernstein? | Oliver Burkeman

If the dog focused exclusively on what passes for presidential scandal today want something more substantial, that everyone suddenly again Watergate may seem strange, pleasant. Thomas Mallon has a new novel, Robert Redford has announced it is working on a new documentary Watergate - and draw a book recently published in the New York, former research assistant Bob Woodward, Jeff Himmelman made some statements that raise the eyebrows of any former employer.

Like everything that has to do with the Watergate scandal, the details are quite complex, the central claim - contained in a note from 1972 Himmelman discovered in an old box of documents - is that one of the main sources of Woodward and Bernstein, called - inevitably - "Z" was in fact a grand jury in the case burglarly, a fact disguised

But the most striking is the suggestion that Himmelman Ben Bradlee, editor of Crusade couple in the Washington Post, had doubts about their accounts to meet famous Deep Throat in an underground garage, organize meetings with a secret system of signals involving a flower pot on the balcony of the apartment Woodward. Himmelman note indicating that gives no reason to doubt Bradlee Deep Throat and pots - but face Himmelman Woodward is exciting about them:

"Why Woodward has his bowels in an uproar?" Ben groaned.
